Music, the art of combining sounds

The first instruments were any object or human part of the body that emit sounds.

One of the first instruments created by man was the Flute, which at the very beginning was a bone with holes.

To begin with, I’m going to explain that this work is divided in to four parts, the first one is the Greek era as the older one, then it will continue with the Middle Age and the renascence, and finally the XX Century.

In the Greek era, is the place where the music has its start and where we can find the first documents of music, math, philosophy and other fields of study. For them, music was very special, they used it in weddings, funerals, births and other religious ceremonies, but always related to dance and poetry.

Music in those times was very important and Greeks use it even in the fields of education, by giving information to the kids through music.

In the Middle age, the Catholic Church becomes the central theme in the society. During those times, the Gregorian singing ruled all the territories, due that the culture and power is in the hands of the monks and religious people. Even though, the secular music has its place, over all in the low Middle Age, with the participation of the jongleur and minstrels which used to act in castles, palaces and in the streets.

During The Renascence, the sculptures and music stop being only as a sign of praise to God and their goal is to create beauty.

In the renascence there is an increase in the musical aspect, established by the humanist over the importance of culture, and it is here when music start to increase and experiment a big development. Whit this, musicians had to start to specialize and to dedicate their live to the art of music.

In the XX century, the world of music is influenced by the cultural and society changes, now there are new kinds of styles of music, such as Jazz, Rock, which take an important part and remove the classical and cultured music, and their branches, which for some time were the most important styles, but with the pass of time, the new styles, and the influence of technology, alter the way in how people create and interpret music.

As we can see, music is always changing, but is it for good?

The new styles and fashions influenced in music, and the same music is now affecting the view of the world and the way in how people live, this can be seen in the new generations, which are much more liberal than the older ones, the lyrics, and the way of presenting this art, which in my opinion, is starting to loose the meaning of art.

Relation between Frankenstein and the monster

During a long time, Frankenstein was isolated, due to the incomprehension of the scary society , which is not able to understand such a horrifying thing and can not deal with it because of the fear of the different. The only answer that exists in their minds is the mistreatment and the insults.

Being alone so much time, growing as a resentful kid, his hate grows more and more, so as his desire of having someone who can understand him and be with him, giving him positive feelings towards him. During this time, he realizes that the only person who can help him is his “father”. That father that gave him life and after that despised him as a peace of garbage... So he looks for his creator, and ask him for a partner that can be so horrendous as he is, and that could join him in his suffering to finally find happiness. His father agrees, but finally he regrets and destroy the only chance for the monster of stay in peace and be happy, letting him vulnerable, full of hate and bitterness, considering to himself as the unfair victim which has being punished and slandered so many times , asking if there was fair that kind of cruelty, feeling even the regret for his acts (killing people), but without stopping the feeling of uncontainable anger which only death could pacify.

Katrina Hurricane

This hurricane is known as one of the most terrible of the history of the U.S, not only for the killing rate , which was 1.836 people approximately , but for the quantity of money , known too as the most expensive disaster in the U.S. with a record of 75 millions of dollars. The most severe loss of life and property damage occurred in New Orleans, Louisiana.

At the beginning it started as a hurricane level one (according to the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Scale, which classify the tropical cyclones or tropical storms that becomes hurricanes) in the Bahamas, the 24 of august of 2005 ,touching land in Florida causing floods, lost of electricity for more than a million of houses, and a rate of eleven deads. But it was getting stronger during its stay in the gulf of Mexico, becoming a hurricane level five now known as the fourth strongest storm in the Atlantic with winds of 280 km/h., And the deadliest hurricane since the 1982 Okeenchobee Huricane ,which in September of the 1982 struck the Leeward Islands, Puerto Rico, the Bahamas, and Florida, killing at least 4,078 people.


It touched land once more the 29 of august of 2005 in Louisiana as a very big hurricane, this time as a level three with winds of 205km/h.

The secuence of the pass of the hurricane was:

The 23 of august, of august it is discovered a tropical depression.
The 24 of august, the depression gets stronger and it`s known as the tropical "storm Katrina."
The 25 of august, touch land in Florida as a hurricane level one, causing large damages.
The 26-28 of august take strength and gets bigger.
The 29 of august, touched land in Florida as Hurricane Level four.
30 of august, pass for Kentucky letting some counties declared a zone of disaster letting New Orleans in an 80% .
The 31 of august, there are some inundations in the north east of U.S and winds with rain in Canada.
The 1st of September, there are some rests of the hurricane at the north of Canada being totally disintegrated.

John Donne : "The Sunne Rising"

1- who's the speaker and who's speaking to?

1- A lover is talking to the sun.

2- type of vocabulary (loving, violent, angry, etc)

It has a violent vocabulary, this you can see it from the very beginning.
(Busie old foole, unruly Sunne,Why dost thou thus,Through windowes,
and through curtaines call on us? Must to thy motions lovers seasons run?)


3- alliterations, metaphors, comparisons, assonances, personifications.

 Here you can find personificaton in the sense that the person who is speaking,
is giving human attributes to the sun, like to interrupt, or visit to someone.
Other example is in the lines where says: Thine age askes ease,saying that
he is old and must to have a rest.),or :

...Sawcy pedantique wretch, goe chide

 Late school boyes, and sowre prentices,

 Goe tell Court-huntsmen, that the King will ride, Call countrey ants
to harvest offices,...(telling to the sun to go and talk or tell the news
that the king will ride, and to speak with the ants so they start they work,etc.)

Metaphor: Why dost thou thus, Through windowes, and through curtaines call on us?

Must to thy motions lovers seasons run? (the sunshine is always giving the new that
is the end of the night, and in this case, the end of the time to the lovers
of being together.)

...Shine here to us, and thou art everywhere;

This bed thy center is, these walls, thy spheare...

Alliterations : Call countrey ... Love, all alike... could eclipse and cloud them with a winke... Thou sunne art halfe as happy’as wee... Thine age askes ease... To warme the world.


Comparison: Princes doe but play us; compar’d to this,All honor’s mimique; All wealth alchimie.


4- what's the poem about?

This poem is about the beginning of the day and the dislike of somebody
because of this, due it is the end of the time for lovers for being together,
The night has always represented the evil as well as the dark and the romantic,
and the day, the end of it. So in this case marks the end of a season for love.



... it is a very strong poem, where you can see in a very interesting way, the desire of a lover for the sun not to come, but understanding at the end, after express his feelings, the meaning and importance of its
arrive, and finally telling to the sun to shine for the lovers, and that it will be welcome inside the room.
A very good poem, although it was difficult to understand and analyze, the meaning and the passion that the speaker shows, makes it more interesting and difficult to stop reading it.
